ACTIVITIES IN MAASAI MARA

GAME DRIVE AND SAFARI

Going for a game drive in Maasai Mara is definitely a must-do when you are here. Mara has one of the highest densities of wild animals in Africa, and is one of few places on earth where you have a fair chance of seeing all “the big five” (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, buffalo). Our guide will take you to the best spots so you can get a proper view of the animals. We start early in the morning to get a beautiful sunrise over the savanna!

If you book a stay with us and want to go for a game drive, then pleas let us know so we can help you organise it.

Prices:

Entrance fee to the park: 100 USD per person.

Van, driver and guide: 130-160 USD (20.000 ksh) total per day. This will vary throughout the year.

MOUNTAIN HIKING

While visiting the village, ask one of our guys to take you out for a mountain hike! They will tell you all about the wildlife in the area, what plant they use as a toothbrush, which berries to taste and which flower to use for perfume. You can even try to beat them in a contest with the bow and arrow! You can usually spot some wildlife in the distance, and you might meet warthogs, baboons, zebras or other savannah dwellers up close. Feel safe though, the Maasai knows the landscape and its animals.

The village lies at an altitude of almost 2000 meters/ 6500 feet above sea level, so if you experience shortness of breath or dizziness, it is not (necessarily) because you are out of shape. The hike itself is not very challenging, just 2-300 meters elevation from the village, but on top there is a beautiful view over Maasai Mara and on clear days you can see all the way to Tanzania.

The mountain hike costs 20 USD (3000 ksh). per person, which will put food on the table for the families of your walking companions.

HANG out in the village

Some of the nicest memories you will get during your stay are likely to be the moments spent in the village and guesthouse compound. Playing with the kids, practicing the traditional jumping competition, fetching water from the river, sitting down with the women to make jewelry.. Village life!

Every Tuesday you can visit a market in the community center nearby. The place is buzzing with life as different tribes meet with their goods, and all kinds of vegetables and fruits are available. Clear evenings are spent together around the bonfire under a beautiful starlit sky while exchanging stories and ideas. Immerse yourself in the Maasai culture in this calm and safe environment, and take some new perspectives with you back home.

This is of course all free!

HOT AIR BALLOON

(This service is provided by a different company, but we will assist you with the booking and get you there in time for the early take off).

If you have already done the game drive, or you just want to try something completely different, you can go for a safari in a hot air balloon. This is a magical experience! You rise with the sun in the early hours, and float in whatever direction the layer of air takes you as the captain of the ship adjusts the flow of hot air. After some quality time in the higher perspective, you land out on the savannah where a team is ready to serve you lunch.
